Goodwill Treasure

A couple of weeks ago, in an effort to kill some time, I wandered into the local Goodwill. I stumbled upon this great magazine/book rack for $6.99...and it looked pretty good. I couldn't let it get away.

Here she is...

A week later, I was showing my treasure to a friend and noticed this:

Pottery Barn Kids. Are you kidding me? I got this for $6.99? Amazing.

On Saturday morning, before it got cold and snowed (?!?!), I set up shop in the driveway to paint it. I did a lazy person's sanding job, and then I taped it off. I had decided that getting behind those dowels to paint the bead board would be next to impossible, not to mention the fact that I'd probably want to gouge my eyes out with the paintbrush by the time the job was done, so I left that part white.

Here it is after the first coat. I know what you're thinking - aaack! I thought the same thing. I'm not sure why I was surprised by the Smurfy blueness of it. It matches the paint in the can exactly. The more I look at it, the more I like it, though.

Also, please do not judge my by the random paraphernalia I had to use to hold my drop cloth down. It was super windy.

This is what the rack looks like after two coats, sanded back down a little bit, and hanging in my tiny, tiny stark white bathroom. The weird photo is me trying to give a point of reference. I hung it over the toilet. Magazine rack, toilet, makes sense to me. Anyway, it looks a little nekkid. Let's fix that.

Ta-da! Sorry, fellas. No man literature here. You'll have to venture upstairs for that. And yes, Mom, that's your magazine on the bottom shelf. I don't know if you meant to leave it here, but you now know where it is if you'd like to retrieve it. :)

  1. I LOVE getting great deals at the goodwill. It looks great :0)

  2. I spot check those stores and have yet to find a deal. Some friends have purchased clothing to use the beautiful buttons on special projects, and have even found great picture frames, etc. Not me.

  3. I adore the pop of color here. What a score. Don't you just love it when that happens?

  4. That's my baby...a chip off the old block. You think there will be a Goodwill store in heaven?

    Where are John's magazines?

  5. I sure wish the "old block" would find a few good deals for our house!

  6. hmm...i'm pretty sure you rolled your eyes at me & "old block" when we went to those yard sales last fall. just sayin'....
